Aruba: Philip’s Animal Garden

Knowing that I like animals, Sherrie recommended Philip’s Animal Garden.  Over the years, people brought different species of animals with them to Aruba as pets.  When some of the owners could no longer take care of their animals, they brought them to Philip.  All the animals have spacious habitats.  As their number grew, a zoo is formed.

Camels and Alpaca

At the entrance, I was given a bag of carrots and pellets to feed some of these animals.  Before I got to the hoofed animals, my hands already got wet and sticky.  It was so much fun!  The brown alpaca (right) reached for a carrot slice only to spit the whole thing up into the air twice.

While there are many domesticated animals such as pigs, chicken, cows, horses, goats, sheep, camels, and alpacas, there are also exotic ones like caimans, Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum), and even kangaroos.  Some of the animals should never have been kept as pets.  I am glad they now have a more stable home.
